Jalapão State Park stands as one of the most sought-after adventure destinations in the country, boasting a plethora of captivating features, including stunning waterfalls, enchanting dunes, majestic canyons, and impressive rock formations. Undoubtedly, the park’s most renowned attraction is the awe-inspiring fervedouro springs, which create one-of-a-kind natural pools.

Situated in close proximity to the city of Mateiros, approximately 300 km from Palmas, the capital city of Tocantins, this park has become a haven for both adventure tourists and ecotourism enthusiasts, promising them truly unforgettable experiences.

Within the natural landscapes of the Cerrado biome, the Brazilian Savannah, visitors will encounter a diverse array of wonders, from meandering rivers to captivating rock formations, all of which provide a sanctuary for a variety of fascinating wildlife species, including jaguars, maned wolves, and macaws. For the intrepid souls, Jalapão State Park offers the perfect setting to engage in thrilling activities such as canoeing, diving, and rappelling, ensuring an extraordinary and unforgettable journey.

Incredible greenish-blue pools called fervedouros

The breathtaking Formiga Waterfall unveils a mesmerizing sight of emerald-green waters. The transparency of the water is such that even in its deepest recesses, the white limestone sand remains visible, adding to the allure of this natural wonder. However, to access this private property and witness the beauty of the waterfall, a nominal fee is required. The journey begins by taking highway BR-225 from Mateiros towards São Félix, a 36 km stretch of dirt roads leading to this enchanting location.

In addition to Formiga Waterfall, prepare to be captivated by the region’s majestic canyons, such as the Suçuapara, and be amazed by the crystal-clear cascades of Formiga and Velha waterfalls. The true marvel lies in the fervedouros, the extraordinary greenish-blue pools that are unique karst springs where the force of the water keeps bathers afloat, defying gravity.

Before embarking on this incredible adventure, it is essential to keep some crucial tips in mind to ensure a worry-free trip. Hiring a local guide to accompany you through the park is highly recommended. The absence of cell phone reception, public phones, and road signs in certain areas can make it challenging to seek help or find your way to the tourist attractions if you encounter any difficulties. A knowledgeable guide will not only ensure a smooth journey but also lead you to the most remarkable spots in the region. Additionally, remember to carry a first-aid kit for any emergencies that may arise and pack extra tires for the journey.

If you seek unforgettable experiences, look no further than Jalapão State Park – a destination that undoubtedly deserves a prominent place on your list of amazing places to visit.
