Caldas Novas is situated in a region that boasts one of the world’s largest hydrothermal resorts. The water sources in the region, with temperatures ranging from 36 to 70 degrees, are the main reason for the city’s success.
Crystal-clear and warm waters spring from the earth at temperatures nearing 60°C. These thermal waters are considered therapeutic, attracting about a million visitors every year.
The city boasts the largest concentration of hotels in the Midwest region, with many of them having their own water parks. Additionally, the area also features thermal resorts open to the public. An intriguing curiosity about the region is the origin of its hot springs: they spring from underground sources, deep at over a thousand meters, after absorbing rainwater through cracks in the rocks. Once heated, these waters emerge to the surface through rock fractures.
Another point of interest is Lake Corumbá, which supplies power to the Corumbá I hydroelectric plant. With an area of 65 km², the lake offers opportunities for boat, yacht, and jet-ski rides, taking visitors past waterfalls and bars along its shores. Sports fishing is an attractive activity in the area, including periodic competitions.
For nature enthusiasts, the Caldas Novas State Park offers two trails, Cascatinha and Paredão, providing access to waterfalls and viewpoints. The hike takes adventurers to an altitude of 1,043 meters, where they can appreciate the wonders of the Cerrado’s fauna and flora, the Brazilian savanna. It’s important to note that these hikes should be accompanied by guides and can range from 1 and a half to 2 and a half hours in duration.
Don’t miss the opportunity to savor delicious dishes from Goiás cuisine during your visit. A standout typical dish is “peixe na telha,” where scaleless and well-seasoned fish is baked in a clay oven on a tile. Another regional delicacy is “pequi,” a fruit characteristic of the Cerrado, widely used in local cuisine.
And for a unique experience, be sure to visit Rio Quente, located just 30 km from Caldas Novas. There, you’ll find the world’s largest hot water river, stretching over 12 km, as well as one of the country’s largest water parks.
